A bomb tore through the Centre Court during World War II, taking out 1,200 seats.

Approximately 200 ball boys and girls, who are chosen from local schools, are used for the event.

Billy Jean King is the champion of the most singles, doubles and mixed doubles titles, with a total of 20 wins.

With the exception of cardigans, pull-overs or headware, all clothing at Wimbledon must be predominately white. Referees can decide if a player is dressed appropriately or not.

Yellow tennis balls were not used in the championships until 1986, when they were brought in to make speeding balls more visible for the television cameras.

The oldest competitor was a 65-year old gentleman from France named J.R. Borota.

Since 1922, there have only been four championships in which there was no rain - 1931, 1976, 1993 and 1995.

The tallest lady to ever compete in Wimbledon was Lindsey Davenport, at 6'2".

Arthur William Charles 'Wentworth' Gore holds the record for most Wimbledon appearances, playing in 36 competitions between 1888 and 1927.

In 1973, 79 players (and 13 of the 16 seeds) went on strike when player Nikki Pilic was suspended.

Around 42,000 tennis balls are used during Wimbledon, and they must be stored at 68 degrees.

The youngest player ever to compete at Wimbledon was Mita Klima from Austria, who was 13 during her 1907 singles competition.

The last time a wooden racket was used at Wimbledon was in 1987.

With the world's fastest serve at 149mph, Greg Rusedski served 685 aces in 1999, accounting for 79% of his points that year.
