ITF drops Agassi drug inquiries

Tennis officials have closed the book on Andre Agassi's drug revelations. International Tennis Federation president Francesco Ricci Bitti told The Associated Press on Wednesday that despite appeals from the World Anti-Doping Agency, the statute of limitations in the case expired long ago and no retroactive punishment was possible.
Injured Sharapova to miss Key Biscayne

Maria Sharapova has withdrawn from next week's Sony Ericsson Open because of a bone bruise in her right elbow. The tournament announced on Wednesday that second-ranked Dinara Safina and 2008 champion Nikolay Davydenko have also withdrawn. Sharapova, who won the Memphis title last month, withdrew after an MRI scan revealed the injury that is expected to sideline her three to six weeks.
Lloyd resigns as Britain's Davis captain

John Lloyd has resigned as Britain's Davis Cup captain after the team lost to Lithuania this month, dropping to the next-to-last level of the competition. The Lawn Tennis Association also announced Wednesday that American Paul Annacone would no longer be Britain's Davis Cup coach. Instead, he will become the head coach of men's tennis.
Agassi sorry for poking fun at Sampras

Andre Agassi told ESPN.com he was "out of line" and apologized for poking fun at Pete Sampras during a charity match last week. Longtime rivals Agassi and Sampras were wearing microphones during the match, and the crowd at Indian Wells Tennis Garden in California could hear an exchange that started lighthearted but turned testy.
Nadal to prep for Wimbledon at Queen's

Rafael Nadal will return to Queen's this year after he was unable to defend his title at the grass-court tournament in 2009. In 2008, Nadal was the first man to win at the French Open, Queen's Club and Wimbledon in the same year, but his persistent knee problems prevented him from defending his titles on grass at Queen's and Wimbledon last year.
Hingis to take on Serena in WTT

Martina Hingis will face top-ranked Serena Williams and two former No. 1 players in World Team Tennis competition. The WTT announced its 10-team schedule on Thursday. Hingis will play for the New York Buzz and face Serena on July 9 at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Hingis is a five-time Grand Slam singles champion and the youngest woman to be ranked No.
