The Maple Leafs stuck an arm into the Eastern Conference elevator to stall it just before it was to leave them stranded in the basement. After a surprising run of 7-3-1 after the Olympic break despite playing at least every second night between March 2 and 20, the Leafs can bring themselves within a point of the Florida Panthers if they beat them at home on Tuesday. Not only are the Leafs winning—they've won six of their last seven—they're doing it with improved penalty killing, extra-time wins and clutch goaltending, all elements that eluded them in the autumn when they fell far from the playoff race.
