Packers Team Report
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 19:48:21 PST)
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers' season-ending getaway destination is taking him to Australia for the next couple weeks.
A rather apropos travel choice, considering how the Packers' season ended in a down-under manner.
After being part of the biggest collapse from one season to the next in the illustrious 90-year history of the franchise, Rodgers said football will be the furthest thing from his mind.
"I'll probably sit on the beach in Australia and think about some of the things that went wrong and then get back in the water," a grinning Rodgers said Monday.
A 6-10 record had Rodgers and many of his teammates packing their bags and escaping snow-infested Green Bay this week much earlier than last winter, when the Packers turned a 13-3 regular season into what...

Police: 'no evidence' officers beat Driver's dad
(Tue, 30 Dec 2008 17:34:15 PST)
Houston police said Tuesday there is no evidence to back claims that three police officers brutally assaulted the father of Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver during a traffic stop last month. In a one-page statement, the Houston Police Department said an internal investigation concluded they "could not prove or disprove" allegations that Marvin Driver Jr., 56, was severely beaten and...

(Tue, 30 Dec 2008 16:04:36 PST)
NFL teams searching for coaches saw a big name stunningly burst onto their radar screens. The Denver Broncos fired Mike Shanahan, the league's second-longest tenured coach, on Tuesday after 14 seasons that included Super Bowl titles in 1998 and '99. But the Broncos blew a three-game lead in their division with three games to go this season to miss the playoffs.

Packers fall to 6-10, but failure not about Favre
(Mon, 29 Dec 2008 14:04:48 PST)
Despite a remarkably ugly player-front office dispute that turned training camp into a circus, the Green Bay Packers didn't fail this season because Brett Favre was playing somewhere else. "Favre had nothing to do with our season," wide receiver Greg Jennings said. "So people can look at it whatever way they want to view it.

NFL Capsules
(Sun, 28 Dec 2008 20:29:09 PST)
The Detroit Lions own a distinction no team wants: worst in NFL history. Facing one last chance to avoid their dubious destiny, the Lions lost Sunday's season finale to the Green Bay Packers 31-21 to complete the league's first 0-16 season. The 1976 expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-14) were the last NFL team to complete a season without a victory.

Green Bay's Mason Crosby missed an attempt at the longest field goal in NFL history on a free kick to end the first half of Sunday's game with the Lions. With Green Bay leading 14-7, Packers punt returner Will Blackmon called for a fair catch as time expired at the Green Bay 41. That allowed the team to try the free kick.

(Sat, 27 Dec 2008 21:00:52 PST)
To some, it might seem trivial to compare the struggles of millionaires who play games for a living to the plight of a blue-collar worker worried about his family's financial future. But in the eyes of Detroit Lions coach Rod Marinelli, his team has a responsibility to keep fighting in Sunday's regular-season finale against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

(Fri, 26 Dec 2008 10:38:18 PST)

But that hardly makes his first season as a starting quarterback a failure. The Packers have plenty of problems that will keep them out of the playoffs this year, but Rodgers' play generally hasn't been one of them.
