Tracy McGrady asked to go back in, believing he could help pull out a victory over the team that didn't want him anymore. Instead, the day belonged to the players the Houston Rockets acquired when they shipped McGrady out. Kevin Martin scored 28 points, Jared Jeffries and rookie Jordan Hill played key roles down the stretch, and Houston rallied to beat the New York Knicks 116-112 on Sunday.

A part of Rick Adelman seemed to know that the recent success of the Rockets' offense was a matter of hot shooting, the sort of run that never lasts forever.

"It always helps when you have someone like Luis (Scola) playing at the level he's played," he said. "And Aaron (Brooks) and Kevin (Martin) have been on a pretty good roll. It always looks better when that happens."

To keep a streak going, he knew that the Rockets would have to score well even on a night that shots did not fall as reliably, with the execution of their offense bringing them better looks and keeping the offense clicking.

When the Celtics applied the defensive clamps, however, the Rockets could count only on their ability to make tough shots, and could not make nearly enough of those.

Luis Scola glanced at the scoreboard during the second half of Saturday's game against New Jersey and the night he was having finally started to sink in. Scola finished with a career-high 44 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and the Houston Rockets beat the Nets 116-108 to keep their fading playoff hopes alive.
