The Celtics have been widely hailed as not only the best defensive team in the league but the best club on that end of the floor in years. Yet it is this aspect of the game that is haunting the Celtics as they head toward Cleveland for a major test Friday.

"It's our defense," said Paul Pierce, explaining the team's recent slump. "Teams are way too comfortable when they go up against us now. We're missing assignments. One person can mess up the whole five, so we all have to get back on the same page."

Coach Doc Rivers agrees.

"I told our guys that you can't put yourselves in the position where you have to make shots," he said. "If you play defense all game, those shots aren't as important.

Boston Celtics guard Tony Allen missed Tuesday night's game against Charlotte with a right ankle injury. Allen was injured in Sunday's loss to New York and did not participate in the team's shootaround before their game against the Bobcats. A team official said Allen would be evaluated in Boston to determine if he'll be able to play Wednesday against Houston.
