Darlington Raceway - Track Info

The first race at Darlington Raceway was the Southern 500 held in 1950 with a crowd of 25,000 fans. Darlington Raceway was the first track to become a "Superspeedway" as we know them today. The track at Darlington is a 1.366-mile oval shaped track. Darlington is of ten referred to the track that is "Too Tough To Tame".

In the 1990's the seating capacity at Darlington Raceway was doubled by the addition of the Pearson and Tyler Towers. These two Towers are complete with restrooms, gift shops and food courts for the fans. Most recently Pit Road was expanded along the frontstretch so no one has to pit on the backstretch. Even with these facelifts the structure of the track remains the same as Darlington Raceway tries to live up to its title of the best facility in motorsports.
