Giniel De Villiers wins Dakar Rally's 5th stage

A Frenchman became the latest fatality in the Dakar Rally on Wednesday, when Nasser Al Attiyah reclaimed the race's overall lead and NASCAR star Robbie Gordon was third in a fifth stage won by Giniel De Villiers. The body of motorcyclist Pascal Terry, missing since Sunday, was found in dense bush between Santa Rosa and Puerto Madryn.
Race team co-founder agrees to tax plea in Va

A co-founder of Morgan-McClure Motorsports has agreed to plead guilty to tax fraud charges. Assistant U.S. Attorney Randy Ramseyer said Wednesday that in exchange for Larry McClure's pleas, prosecutors will dismiss fraud charges related to the painting of show-car trailers. But he says McClure has agreed to make restitution of nearly $60,000 related to those charges.
Dakar Rally says French motorcyclist found dead

French motorcyclist Pascal Terry has been found dead during the Dakar Rally in Argentina. The 49-year-old Terry had gone missing Sunday during the second stage of the race, between Santa Rosa and Puerto Madryn, organizers said in a statement. Terry was found early Wednesday in an area of dense vegetation, about 50 feet from his motorcycle, without his helmet but with food and water beside him.
Baldwin to field Sprint Cup team in 2009

Former NASCAR Rookie of the Year Sam McQuagg dies

Sam McQuagg, the 1965 NASCAR Rookie of the Year, died Saturday, his son said. He was 73. McQuagg died at St. Francis Hospital, Sam McQuagg Jr. told The Associated Press. Preliminary medical reports show McQuagg died from cancer. McQuagg began racing in the 1950s and entered his first NASCAR race in 1962. His son remembered his father's racing career as something that seemed normal to McQuagg Jr.
