MLB All Star Venue History and Information

Yankee Stadium was Baseball's first triple-decked structure. With an advertised capacity of 70,000, it would also be the first to be labeled a "stadium." Babe Ruth christened his new home during the inaugural game on April 18, 1923 vs. the Boston Red Sox with a three-run homer to cap a four-run third inning as the Yankees coasted to a 4-1 win.

Yankee Stadium has gone through several remodels and upgrades throughout its history. The most notable of which was in 1976 when it was completely modernized. The 84 year old "House That Ruth Built" is the third-oldest stadium in the Major Leagues. However, the 2008 All Star Game will be one of the last major Baseball events to be played there as the stucture will be replaced by a brand new Yankee Stadium in 2009.
