MLB All Star Game History
The MLB All-Star Game brings together the best of the best in baseball, at one time, on the same diamond. The very first All-Star Game in 1933 was no exception either, with Lou Gehrig,
Al Simmons and even Babe Ruth gracing the field of Chicago's Comiskey Park. Players for both the American League and the National League were very excited to play with Babe, as Wild
Bill Hallahan expressed, "Sure, he was old and had a big waistline, but that didn't make any difference. We were on the same field as Babe Ruth."
And the Babe certainly didn't disappoint. At the bottom of the third, Ruth hammered the ball into the right field stands, scoring the first homer in All Star history. The American
League won that first game, on the strength of Ruth's home run, 4 - 2.
Since then, the MLB All-Star Game has turned into a 3-day event, which also includes the Futures and Legends Game and the Home Run Derby. The All Star Futures Game brings together one
team consisting of young players from the United States, and the other team consisting of players from nations all over the world. These players are usually chosen by their prospect
status in the minor leagues. The MLB Association has created these extra events to make the experience more exciting for the fans, and to give the fans the feeling of being a part of
MLB history.
