Sunday's rainout changes Tigers' plans
(Sun, 21 Mar 2010 14:03:00 EDT)
The Tigers were hoping to see reliever Joel Zumaya in game action, but there was no word after the postponement whether he would throw a bullpen in Lakeland or instead pitch on Monday.
Ni may land bigger role in Tigers' bullpen
(Sat, 20 Mar 2010 18:20:00 EDT)
One way Fu-Te Ni was able to fit into the Tigers' clubhouse last summer was with impersonations of players around the league, including Bobby Seay. Now, with Seay out for Opening Day and possibly longer, Ni could end up having to do a lot more than an impersonation of him.

Tigers strike first, but falter against Yanks
(Fri, 19 Mar 2010 16:00:00 EDT)
Rick Porcello allowed his first runs of the spring -- four, but just one earned -- and the Tigers couldn't sufficiently solve CC Sabathia and the Yanks' relief corps in Friday's 6-2 loss.
Porcello all about fine-tuning mechanics
(Fri, 19 Mar 2010 17:07:00 EDT)
One of the few pitchers guaranteed a spot on the Tigers' staff, Rick Porcello, in his second season, is using Spring Training as a time to fine-tune his repertoire. He does not need to compete for a roster spot, so spring statistics do not weigh on his mind.
Tigers' Jackson brings speed to the table
(Fri, 19 Mar 2010 16:27:00 EDT)
Tigers outfielder Austin Jackson finished 0-for-3 with a nifty running catch in center in Friday's 6-2 loss to the Yankees -- his former team. But his speed made an impression.

Dontrelle Willis shook off back spasms to pitch three scoreless innings on Thursday, and Carlos Guillen added a big RBI double in the Tigers' 5-4 win over the Astros.

(Thu, 18 Mar 2010 17:57:00 EDT)
The Tigers crossed one name off their list of rotation candidates Thursday. Three days after Armando Galarraga's third uninspiring outing of the spring, the Tigers optioned the struggling right-hander to Triple-A Toledo.

(Wed, 17 Mar 2010 17:38:00 EDT)
Bobby Seay came out of his first mound session with his shoulder feeling fine, he said Wednesday, but he's still awhile away from actually pitching in a game. That makes his readiness for Opening Day still awhile away from a definite answer.
Laird aiming to contribute at, behind plate
(Tue, 16 Mar 2010 18:50:00 EDT)
Perhaps more than ever, offense is important to Gerald Laird, who has a responsibility to hit to help Detroit's lineup and maybe help himself in a contract year. Still, it'll never supplant his defense. Midway through Spring Training, there's reason to believe the balance is set.
Dombrowski intently watching pitchers
(Tue, 16 Mar 2010 17:48:00 EDT)
Tigers president/GM Dave Dombrowski is watching prospective starters and weighing the rotation decisions to come. He also has to weigh the decisions that await the players who don't make it, but emphasized that he isn't letting contracts shape their final selections.
