Champions Tour adds event in Mississippi

The Champions Tour is going to Mississippi with a new tournament next spring to be played at Fallen Oak. Tour officials announced Tuesday that the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic will be played April 30-May 2. Tom Fazio designed the golf course, which was ranked among the top 20 in Golf Digest magazine's list of America's 100 best public courses.

Heart transplant recipient returns to Disney

Erik Compton, the golfer with two heart transplants, has received another exemption into the Children's Miracle Network Classic at Disney next week. Compton also received an exemption last year and tied for 60th. He was allowed to ride in a cart, just five months after his second transplant. Tournament chairman Kevin Weickel says Compton will be walking this year.
Casey realistic about bonus chance

Reno-Tahoe Open in July, same weekend Tahoe celebs

The PGA Tour is moving the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open to July, the same weekend a nationally televised celebrity golf tournament has been played at Lake Tahoe for 20 years. The PGA event historically has been played in August at Montreux Golf & Country Club on the edge of Mount Rose between Reno and Lake Tahoe.

A good step for golf, even with Americans at home

The field for a World Golf Championship is never as strong when Americans require a passport. The HSBC Champions is no exception. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, the best two players in the world, are competing at the same tournament in Asia for the first time. That alone is enough to give the HSBC Champions the appearance of a world-class event, just as it would any tournament at home.
